About Me

I am proud to represent the people of North East Fife, having worked in communities across Scotland and dedicated my career to public service.

I live in Fife with my husband and two children. After studying English at Edinburgh University, I joined the police, serving in Fife and Edinburgh for 12 years before being elected MP for North East Fife in 2019.

Since then, I’ve spoken out against cuts to local services such as Post Offices, banks, rail and bus routes, and worked with my team to support people and businesses through the cost of living crisis. I’ve pressed for fairer support for local businesses, the self-employed, and the health and social care sector.

Right now, housing and the rising cost of living remain the biggest challenges for constituents. I continue to challenge the Government on access to affordable housing, healthcare, local services and cash – the issues I hear about every week on the doorsteps.

My Priorities

Cost of Living

Households and businesses across North East Fife are feeling the strain of soaring bills and squeezed budgets. Too many residents face the awful choice between heating and eating this winter, while local businesses struggle with costs that threaten their survival.

The UK Government has announced measures, including a temporary price cap, but more must be done. I am using my voice in Westminster to press for stronger action: doubling the Warm Home Discount to support vulnerable and low-income households, and providing businesses with greater certainty than a six-month cap on energy costs.

I am also calling for a proper windfall tax on oil and gas companies to fund this support, so the burden doesn’t fall on more government borrowing, but on those making record profits in this crisis.

Local Services

North East Fife has been hit hard by cuts to vital local services. Banks, Post Offices, buses, trains, and even the opening hours of recycling and leisure centres have all been reduced.

I am determined to stand up for these services at the heart of our communities. That means working with local people and service providers to protect what we have, and to find the best possible alternatives where cuts have already taken place. I’m pushing for Community Banking Hubs to replace closed branches, urging the Post Office to restore services, and meeting regularly with Stagecoach to defend local bus routes.

These services matter deeply to people across North East Fife, and I will continue fighting to protect them.

Local Environment

North East Fife is a beautiful constituency – from the Lomond Hills in the Howe of Fife to the East Neuk and Tentsmuir, it’s a place of stunning scenery that I am proud to represent.

Protecting this natural beauty is one of my priorities. Nationally, I want to see stronger action to safeguard our environment, cut carbon emissions, and clean up our air, seas, and rivers. I support my party’s Green Recovery Plan, which includes insulating every home properly and increasing renewable energy to 80% of UK electricity.

Locally, I’ve pressed SEPA to tackle sewage spills in the River Eden and River Leven, joined tree-planting projects in Gauldry, St Andrews, Newburgh and Cupar, taken part in beach cleans, and called on Fife Council to improve our recycling centres.

Health and Social Care

Improving health and social care for everyone is a priority for me. That’s why I worked hard to help secure the Carers Act, which gives carers up to five days’ unpaid leave to help balance work and caring responsibilities. This was an important step forward, but I believe we must go further. I want to see carers given ten days of paid leave, and I will keep campaigning for this.

I’ve also been raising awareness of lesser-known conditions such as PANS and PANDAS, where families face a lack of recognition and support. These voices must be heard, and I will continue to press for better services and understanding.

Finally, I believe health and social care staff deserve fair pay that reflects the vital work they do. Increasing the minimum wage for care workers would not only recognise their contribution but also help address the recruitment and retention crisis in the sector.

Demanding Better of the Government

As an MP, holding the Government to account and ensuring fairness in every decision it makes is central to my work.

I sit on several All-Party Parliamentary Groups, including the APPG for Afghan Women and Girls, where we press the Government to help women and girls reach safety.

I am also committed to protecting democracy here at home. That’s why I oppose voter ID and proposed electoral reforms that risk excluding people from the ballot box. Alongside this, I continue to champion human rights, better support for veterans, and high standards in policing.
