Each week, my team and I work hard to ensure we are giving the best support we can to Constituents who have been in touch. Since becoming the MP for North East Fife in December 2019, my office has dealt with 27,548 cases from Constituents on a huge range of diverse subjects.
This month so far, we have created 146 new cases, which has generated an output of 539 casework emails with responses being prepared constantly. Of those cases, we’ve had 46 constituency and personal problems to support, 32 cases with political/policy comment and 68 cases linked to political campaign content.
This week alone, my team have collectively spent 85 hours dealing with individual cases, often spending 4-5 hours in a day to work on more complex situations, contacting various agencies to solve problems and seek answers. This includes taking phone calls, as well as physical and virtual meetings with constituents.
The key issues this week have been immediate immigration help, duty of care and welfare needs, emergency housing requirements, complaints about consumer and energy costs, concerns about benefit changes, local service issues in Fife, health services and social care support.
Arlene, my Office Manager, splits her time supporting the day to day running of my constituency office and supporting constituency casework, she said:
“I love my job, as I get the opportunity to help constituents, and I meet such interesting people who have a range of life experiences. I genuinely feel like we can make a difference as a team to people’s lives in North East Fife. We all come from different sectors and backgrounds and have a breadth of experience to support constituents.”
Ali who does a lot of my political and policy casework said:
“I enjoy my job because of the diverse range of tasks it offers. I have the opportunity to support our constituents and help achieve positive outcomes for them, which is rewarding. Additionally, I assist the MP with responding to policy and campaign issues. This aspect of my role is particularly fascinating as it involves addressing multiple topics, including national and global issues! There are plenty of fast-moving issues to keep up to date with.”
Neve who does my constituency casework said:
“My job as an MP's caseworker is rewarding and fascinating, it certainly keeps me on my toes! While I primarily support the MP in relation to Constituent casework, taking a keen interest in housing and healthcare, I dip in-and-out! I personally love that no two cases are the same and enjoy having the opportunity to connect with Constituents from all walks of life. While we work in a fast-paced environment, no issue is too big or too small. We are always here to help and enjoy contributing to the fantastic community that is North East Fife.”
We are here to support Constituents to the best of our ability and I encourage anyone to get in touch with me via email (wendy.chamberlain.mp@parliament.uk) if there is anything they would like to raise or get support with.
