Chamberlain welcomes Speed Limit Proposals

Wendy Chamberlain, MP for North East Fife, has welcomed proposals to amend speed limits in Cupar.

In the latest North East Fife Area Committee meeting, Fife Council concluded that in the interest of traffic management and road safety, 20mph speed limits would be implemented on all remaining 30mph roads within the Cupar town boundary and on selected 40mph lengths to encourage a slower approach.

Marvin Tulleth, a Cupar resident who has been campaigning for reduced speed limits, said:

“This is a welcome change that hopefully makes a difference.

Our children use the pathway next to the road to travel to and from school, and also the Sandylands Road street itself, which has been our main concern for the 9 years we have been trying to get something done.

“We want the route to be safer for all children and people who use it.

"I am also concerned that there will still be speeding as people are currently choosing to not stay under the current limit of 30mph, so will they react the same to a 20mph limit?

"Time will tell I’m sure."

Chamberlain commented:

“I’m happy to see Fife Council addressing the speeding concerns raised by constituents.

“Marvin, first contacted me about his concerns over the speeding on Sandlylands Road back in 2020. I have been raising this issue with Fife Council ever since, so I am pleased to see it now being implemented.

“Residents deserve to feel safe when walking around their neighbourhoods or backing out of their driveways. I hope these measured are implemented quickly so that this can finally happen.”
