Housing in North East Fife

I know that the lack of available social housing in North East Fife is a cause of concern for many of my constituents. I want to assure them that I am actively engaged on this issue.

At the end of 2024, I met with social housing providers, including Fife Council, to find out more details about this issue. My office has also had regular meetings with Fife Council’s Housing Department, discussing live casework as well as the ongoing Housing Emergency.  

Recently I met with Kingdom Housing Association (KHA) to discuss their Tenancy Sustainment Services. KHA have increased their responsibility from providing homes to offering support to tenants. This includes community integration, financial support and tenancy sustainment.

I was assured to hear that Kingdom are continuing to improve and develop their service.

In North East Fife we have almost 14,000 people on the waiting list for a home, with some applicants waiting up to 17 years. Something needs to change, that is why I have written to local, private contractors to develop my understanding of Fifes’ private housing sector and the challenges facing contractors.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats also want to see funding that can bring empty homes back into use, build more homes and re-establish social rent as a viable long-term option. This is something that I absolutely support and hope to see implemented.

My office and I are acutely aware of the frustration caused by resolution delays and appreciate that this has been exacerbated by the anxiety generated by the Housing Emergency.  

 I wish to assure my Constituents that I continue to work closely with Fife Council and local housing providers; encouraging new discussion and the development of new relationships.
