Farming energy costs

I am very concerned by the approaching cliff edge in energy support for businesses, including farmers. Wholesale energy prices are starting to come down and the government has spent less than it expected, but prices remain above where they were before last year’s shock.

Businesses with particularly high energy consumption, including farmers, face a real threat from the sudden end of support. The prime minister likes to insist that he is proud of the support that has been provided, but the reality is that last week’s Budget was a missed opportunity. The government are not doing all they could to support businesses in the agriculture sector.
