Housing Emergency

My office recently met with Fife Council to discuss the growing housing emergency affecting our communities.
We raised a total of 29 individual cases, with a particular focus on the ongoing shortage of family-sized homes across North East Fife and Leven. This lack of suitable housing is causing real difficulties for families in need.
While the Council has assured us that they are reviewing policies to improve communication and make better use of available housing stock, we are aware that significant challenges persist.
With this in mind, I’ll be working closely with my MSP colleague, Willie Rennie, to advocate for greater investment and new housing development from the Scottish Government. Willie has already tabled a series of proposed amendments to the Housing Bill, including:
The development of a private rented sector strategy.
The reconsideration of rent control measures.
Protections for mid-market-rent and build-to-rent properties.
Willie has also argued that new development and investment is required if we are to overcome the housing crisis, and the amendments aim to accelerate house-building to meet current demand.
While my office and I will continue to engage with Fife Council, I strongly encourage my Constituents to keep in regular contact with the Council; updating their circumstances, engaging with staff and sharing any concerns they may have.
Should you wish to discuss your housing concerns with the Council, please submit a request for contact via their online forum or through their phoneline 03451 55 00 33.
